My advent modena m201 laptop (using windows 7) won't start up. it shows the starting windows screen and then freezes and restarts. it suggests to launch start up repair. after loading files it opens an options box. the automatic repair startup problems option doesn't work, the fix windows option freezes the computer and from advanced options we opened command prompt and used bootrec options (i.e. fixmbr...but still didn't help)

any suggestions how to fix start up? i have important files that i haven't backed up yet.

Then restart machine and try to start normally.

Hi there, just tried sfc /scannow and it said that there is a repair pending, and that i should restart the computer and come back o sfc, I've done that about 5 times and it still shows the same message. what do i do?

Are you saying the standard Safe mode doesn't work but the safe mode with CMD prompt does ?

If so then open up with a cmd prompt, close it down, hold Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open up the Task Manager, select File -- New Task (run) --- type Control (make sure you have checked open with privileges) and hit OK, select Restore system and see if you can restore to an earlier date.
